Bywgraffiad yr Awdur / Author Biography
Thom Gray is an NHS social worker who has worked for mental health and peer support services for over a decade. He studied at the University of the West of England specialising in minority sexualities and has appeared on BBC television and radio to discuss LGBT+ identities, as well as having research published in the prestigious Psychology Sexuality journal. His lifelong passion however is children’s television, triggered by a childhood visit to the now-defunct TV theme park Crinkley Bottom at Cricket St Thomas (aka ‘Blobbyland’). Since 2017 he has run Dunblobbin.com, an unofficial archive of the park, which has led to Blobby-related media appearances on Channel 5, Times Radio, and countless newspaper articles. He currently lives in Devon with a rather large collection of vintage children’s television-related merchandise.
Adolygiad y Cyhoeddwr / Publisher Review
Have you ever wondered what Tubby Toast tastes like? Did Byker Grove give you a lifelong phobia of paintball guns? Do you still occasionally set your alarm for 9.25am for fear of missing SM:TV Live? And whatever happened to Otis the Aardvark? If these questions mean anything to you, this is the book you’ve been waiting for. Lovingly compiled and featuring all your Saturday morning and weekday afternoon favourites from the late great decade of kids’ telly, you can finally discover the answers to those nagging questions that have kept you awake since the Millennium, as well as discovering how instant mashed potato played a part in the creation of The Riddlers, which game show traumatised toddlers by burning teddy bears, and how Carol Vorderman ended up presenting an episode of Art Attack – plus so much more useless information you’ve never realised you needed to know. A nostalgia-driven celebration of 90s kids’ TV, tapping into the shared cultural memories of a generation raised on Saturday morning telly and post-school classics. Instantly recognisable and highly giftable, appealing to readers in their late 20s–40s who grew up with SM:TV Live, Byker Grove, Art Attack, and more.
