This book explores Wales's national art collection. With 150 works, it spreads its focus over not only fine art but also the remarkable applied art collection some of the finest modern and contemporary art. The introduction, by editor Oliver Fairclough (Amgueddfa Cymru's former Keeper of Art), illuminates the fascinating process by which a national art collection grows. Over a 100-year period, the national collection's formation reflects changes in tastes, fashions, political support - and funding - and the donations of some remarkable individuals. Most notably perhaps are the two Davies sisters, who between them in the early 20th century gathered one of the UK's finest collections of French and Impressionist art.
