Mark Llewelyn Evans is the founder and creative director of ABC of Opera Productions, which tours UK-wide introducing children to the stories and glories of the opera through music and storytelling.

Key Stage: KS2 Subject area: Expressive Arts, Humanities Key themes: Opera, composers, history of music Based on the UK ABC of Opera workshops, which successfully educate children and stimulate their imagination, while also covering key topics in the school cross curriculum. Within a modern context the children learn thought-provoking morals, touching, tragic, funny and inspirational tales from around the world. The story begins when Jack and Megan are transported to ‘The Academy of Barmy Composers’, where, through meeting Jacopo Peri (the inventor of opera) they encounter composers from over the past 500 years. An Academy full of them, all hoping for someone to find them, and who can tell their stories to the current generation before opera disappears. Jack and Megan must act quickly to prevent the music and its stories being lost forever. This first volume in the series covers the Baroque period (c1550-1730) with those composers who shaped that period, such as: Peri (The inventor of opera), Monteverdi (The Papa di Opera), Lully (The Superindendent of the Royal Music and Music Master of the Royal Family), and Caccini (the first female opera composer).
