Bywgraffiad yr Awdur / Author Biography

Sir John Kyffin Williams, OBE, RA (1918-2006) was a Welsh landscape painter from Anglesey. Williams is widely regarded as the defining artist of Wales during the 20th century. After failing a British Army medical examination during WWII because of epilepsy, he went to the Slade School of Fine Art in 1941, then became an art teacher in London. After retiring, Williams returned to Anglesey and spent the next 30 years painting. His particular technique was applying thick oil paint with a palette knife, and he was predominately a landscape painter, typically drawing inspiration from the Welsh landscape and farmlands, though he was also an accomplished portraitist and cartoonist.
