A sequel to the Cardiff based story, Bats at Bay . The bat family has found a strange looking bat from the West Indies, but it's too cold in Wales and he needs to go home. The young bats help him on his way to Anglesey so that he can board a ship from Liverpool. Along the way they see and meet many interesting people and places.

Sheena Crossley was born in Cornwall but has lived and worked in Wales for the past forty years. She is a horticulturist by trade and a former gardening columnist for The South Wales Echo and correspondent for Radio Wales and HTV Wales. She lives in Cardiff with her husband and currently lectures in horticulture at Pencoed College, a post which complements her keen interest in the natural world. She has written for many years, but only recently turned her hand at writing for children, and is thrilled to see her second children’s book hit the shops.

Helping out a friend leads to an adventure for Baby Bat! Bats about Wales is an adventure story following a group of young bats on an epic journey across Wales to help a friend in need. Freddy is a Fruit Bat who wakes to find himself in chilly Cardiff after falling asleep in a crate of bananas aboard a ship in sunny St Lucia! Cold, lonely and hungry, he has no idea how he’ll get home. But then he meets Bobi and his brothers and sisters. Together, they hatch a plan for Freddy to hitch a ride home on a ship, and head north to find a suitable boat. Their journey sees them fly the length of Wales, passing sights such as Castell Coch, The Royal Welsh Showground, Cadair Idris and the Menai Strait on the way. Bats about Wales is Sheena Crossley’s second book for children, following the trials and tribulations of a family of bats who live in St Fagans National History Museum. Fed up with the negative press that bats receive, she set about improving their image with her portrayal of a tight knit, loveable family group with distinctive personalities that children will recognize within their own families. Witty line drawings from illustrator Nicola Robinson capture the humour and adventurous spirit of the text, and are scattered throughout the story.
