Every parish in Wales is unique, and each has historic treasures in its architecture and furniture. The church building has been the heart of the parish, and the culture, crafts and traditions of the area are represented there, as well as spiritual and religious aspects of the community.

Edgar Parry is a historian and lives in Caernarfon. His original Welsh-language version of this book was published in 2003.

Edgar Parry writes both factually and warmly about churches and abbeys that have attracted his attention. He writes of monks and pilgrims, architecture and liturgy, and how they all had an effect – sometimes a destructive one – on the churches’ internal and external fabric. The author tells us, too, where we can still see beautiful screens, misericords and carvings. And there is a warning to us that we need to be aware of what treasures have been lost, and which of those that remain we might lose in the future ...
