Biography of Gower's MP for 35+ years, looking at the dynamics of the Labour movement in Wales and the UK in the first half of the 20th century. A miners' leader in south Wales, he went on to be pivotal in Labour's policymaking and rebirth after 1931 election annihilation to triumph in 1945.

Bywgraffiad yr Awdur / Author Biography

Robert Smith graduated in History from the University of Wales, Swansea, where he later obtained a PhD and postgraduate teaching qualification. He is the author of 'Schools, Politics and Society: Elementary Education in Wales, 1870-1902' (University of Wales Press, 1999) and 'Hanes Libanus, Gorseinon' (self-published, 2012). He was joint author with Gareth Evans and Gareth Elwyn Jones of 'Examining the Secondary of Schools of Wales, 1896-2000' (University of Wales Press, 2008).
