A reader in German at Aberystwyth University, Dr. Hammel has published widely on women refugee writers, in particular, the social and cultural history of refugees fleeing National Socialism, especially the Kindertransport. Dr. Hammel also leads the Aberystwyth branch of the Second World War and Holocaust National Partnership (only branch in Wales) led by the Imperial War Museum London.
