In From Seven to the Sea , Esther confronts the changed circumstances of her life as her mother remarries a man who is dysfunctional as a stepfather. With the clarity of her seven-year-old mind, she puts aside the conventions of family life and school, and heads each day to the harbour of her small town, where she senses the world's open horizons.
