The hitherto untold story of a civilian tented hospital, raised by public subscription in Wales. It travelled to South Africa in 1900 and delivered the best contemporary medical and nursing care to the sick and wounded in the Boer War, establishing standards for the development of military medicine.

David Jones is a retired orthopaedic surgeon who worked as a consultant for 17 years in north Wales and Oswestry, and a further 17 years at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London. He has been interested in medical history throughout his career. This is his first book.
