Lifelong Irish-language activist Flann O’Riain (1929–2008) was born in Co Tipperary. Originally a teacher, he went on to create children’s TV series in Irish in the 1960s before launching a career as a cartoonist and columnist. He wrote a weekly place names column for The Irish Times and was political cartoonist for the Irish Independent and the Sunday Tribune. He was the author of the original version of this book, Lazy Way to Irish (Y Lolfa, 1993). George Jones is a professional translator specialising in Celtic languages. He has translated excerpts of contemporary Welsh-language writers such as Caryl Lewis and Llwyd Owen, and his Gaelic translation of Le Petit Prince, Am Prionnsa Beag, was published by Edition Tintenfass in 2008.
