Martin Hackett is well known throughout the military modelling and wargaming hobby and has had over eighty magazine articles published on battlefields and associated military topics, rule systems and wargames. His books include Lost Battlefields of Britain, As Told in the Great Hall: The Wargamer's Guide to Dark Age Britain and Raise the Clans: The Wargamer's Guide to Jacobite Britain. He regularly gives displays of wargaming at major conventions.

The rugged but beautiful land of Wales was a refuge for the ancient Britons as waves of invaders attacked and settled other parts of Britain. The Britons endured in the mountain strongholds against these raids, eventually becoming the Welsh people, the ancestors of the Cymry of today; forming a land of small kingdoms ruled by Welsh princes.
