Born in Swansea, Joanna attended her local comprehensive school, before graduating from RADA in 1998. She then spent ten years in stage-based roles for the Royal National Theatre and Royal Shakespeare Company. She also secured roles in major films, such as From Hell, Mine All Mine , and Richard Curtis' classic, Love Actually . Joanna came to wide public attention after taking a leading role in the BBC comedy Gavin and Stacey , playing the main part of Stacey Shipman. She appeared in the show's three series between 2007 and 2010, before returning for a Christmas special in 2019, which became the most-watched comedy (with 17 million viewers) since Only Fools and Horses in 2002. In May 2024 it was announced that a final episode of the show will be broadcast on Christmas Day. Since 2023, she has appeared as a regular panellist on the ITV talk show Loose Women, has retrained as an animal care assistant in Joanna Page's Wild Life for BBC2.
