In the cellar of an old castle, a Sorcerer has a clever, likeable, but sometimes lazy young Apprentice. When the Master goes on a journey, he leaves his Apprentice with a long list of jobs to do. But instead of working hard, the Apprentice decides to turn to magic to make his life easier and that's when everything takes an unexpected turn.

Tomi Ungerer (1931-2019) was a prolific author and illustrator of children s books and works for adults which are considered modern classics, with Inis Ceo, Zeralda agus an Gruagach, and Printíseach an Draoi now presented as a series in Irish.
Born in Strasbourg, later forging a literary career in children s literature in New York, Ungerer relocated to West Cork in 1976 where he lived the rest of his life.
Ungerer was famed for his political satire, social commentary, and imaginative, fantastical storytelling.
He is one of the world s best-loved children s book artist and authors, widely considered a pioneer in the sphere of children s literature.
Ungerer published over 140 works to worldwide acclaim, selling over 16 million copies in over 40 languages.
Ungerer was the recipient of many awards and accolades, including the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in 1992; the Hans Christian Andersen Medal for Illustration in 1998; and the Erich Kästner Prize for Literature in 2003. He was also appointed the Council of Europe s Ambassador for Children and Education in 2000, and was made an Officier de la Légion d Honneur by France in 2002.

The Tomi Ungerer Collection in Irish has been written by Meadhbh Ní Eadhra and the late Gabriel Rosenstock. The works include QR code links to story narrations to assist with independent reading and language acquisition, and downloadable teachers notes.
The series has received financial support from the Arts Council.
