The Pembrokeshire Coast Path National Trail was opened in 1970. Over the last few years I have been exploring short sections of it looking for accessible routes which extend the concept of ‘Access for all’. Some of these routes I have written up and they have been published in Walking Wales Magazine. With the aid of information published by the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park I surveyed many more sections of the Path, which comprise the 25 accessible routes included in this guide. I am a wheelchair user and have travelled these routes using a wheelchair unaccompanied. The walks vary in difficulty from hard surfaced paths with gentle gradients to more challenging routes. Badly rutted paths have been avoided (although things can change). The walks are by their nature fairly short sections of the coast path providing stretches in manageable and scenic lengths. No stiles will be encountered and the few gates you will come across are designed to be accessible. Starting by the estuary of the Afon Teifi, and in particular Poppit Sands, I travel west along the north Pembrokeshire Coast towards St David’s and Whitesands Bay, and then south along the west Pembrokeshire coast, finally turning east along the south coast through Tenby and on to Amroth and the Carmarthenshire border. The walks have been surveyed and traversed by myself using a standard wheelchair, and are designed for wheelchair users, families with children in pushchairs or buggies and walkers who simply prefer a short, gentle stroll. The aim is to provide an experience of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path for these diverse groups. The walks stand alone or can be grouped into particular areas with the aid of a car or public transport to link them together. Taken together these walks provide exercise and scenic walks with plenty of experience of the flora and fauna, the history and the geography of the area of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park.
