The story recounts the many challenges Matthew and his friends faced throughout their adventure including poor preparation, difficulties in reaching the start line, a multitude of breakdowns, running out of money, phones being cut-off, a ferry journey from hell, being abandoned in the desert, quitting the race, a helpless search for a route home (with or without the car), a close encounter with a suspected international drug dealer, a twisting ride through a foreign city at night culminating in a stranger eventually fixing our car and a triumphant (but cautious) drive back to Wales.
